Hosting Super Bowl party involves plenty of details

It’s that time of year that should be considered a national holiday ? the Super Bowl.
In conjunction with the big game, Super Bowl parties will be in full force. For the third straight year, your fearless sports writer will be hosting a Super Bowl party. Actually, the party will be at my folks? place in Clinton Township, thanks to their generosity, but I’ll be doing the legwork.
Being a veteran Super Bowl party host, I can tell you there are plenty of details involved with putting it together. Let me walk you through some key details involved in hosting a top-notch Super Bowl bash.
Once I make the trek to my folks? place, the initial snack setup begins, featuring my mom’s taco dip. It is very tempting to wolf down that taco dip while listening to Santana performing ‘Black Magic Woman? during the pregame show, but the assurance of other snacks to come is enough to keep things in check.
A must prior to the Super Bowl party is keeping the cell phone charged at all times in anticipation of folks calling for directions to the party.
Running around giving out directions while listening to the FOX NFL Sunday crew break down the Patriots? nickel package going up against the Eagles? shotgun formation can be challenging, but it’s worth it once the guests show up. They are a fun-loving bunch that make the party such a enjoyable event.
One such guest, John, is a diehard Lions fan who always shows up to the party in his Honolulu blue-and-silver gear.
He is the eternal Lions optimist. Despite the fact the Lions have won exactly one playoff game since their last championship in 1957 (and are one of a few National Football League teams never to make the Super Bowl), John believes someday the Lions will make it to the promised land.
John always brings plenty of White Castle hamburgers in tow to share with the group. Along with the other food at the party, it’s enough to satisfy the heartiest of appetites.
Another Super Bowl party tradition is critiquing the Super Bowl commercials. Whether it be classic commercials such as the Budweiser frogs or more recent spots like Terry Tate: Office Linebacker (for Reebok), everyone has their favorite commercials that will stick with them long after the game is done
A Super Bowl tradition that appeals to both the casual and hardcore football fans is the halftime entertainment. In response to last year’s infamous ‘wardrobe malfunction,? the NFL is taking no chances this year, bringing in the clean-cut legendary rock star Paul McCartney to do the honors.
Who knows, though, there may still be a few surprises. Ringo Starr (the other surviving former Beatle) may join McCartney on stage, or the spirits of John Lennon and George Harrison may descend on Jacksonville (site of this year’s game) during the show.
Farfetched, I know. Nonetheless, one thing is guaranteed during a Super Bowl party: plenty of fun. To all those attending Super Bowl parties in your neck of the woods, have a good time, but do so responsibly.
