An Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputy deployed his county-issued taser on a man who had been arrested for drunk driving and became combative while having blood drawn on Jan. 24.
The man was arrested for the third time for driving while intoxicated at Baldwin Road and Maybee at about 1:44 a.m. According to the OCSD, the man was uncooperative, and would not comply with the deputy’s directions, becoming verbally abusive.
A search warrant for a blood draw was requested and signed by a magistrate. The man was taken to the North Oakland Medical Center in Pontiac for the blood draw, and while at the hospital he refused several requests to comply and became combative.
The man began banging his head against the wall while a nurse had a needle in his arm, so the deputy deployed his taser in order to gain control of the subject so the blood could be drawn.
The man was then taken to the Oakland County Jail without further incident.
