Remain calm! Clarkston News offices still standing

At about 11 a.m. on Tuesday, an explosion in The Clarkston News building at 5. S. Main Street, attracted the attention of a lot of people, including the Independence Township Fire Department.
A problem with the building furnace caused some concern, but no major damage and no injuries.
Office staff noticed a burning smell, and called the fire department as a precaution. Paul Meznarich, a salesman with Plymouth Yarn Co. Inc. visiting Basketful of Yarn (which shares space in The Clarkston News building), was kind enough to go to the basement and turn off the furnace.
Firefighters discovered that the furnace fan and blower blew apart.
Repairs were underway on Tuesday and the businesses in the building are still in operation.
