OTFD saves dog using CPR at fire

Thanks to the efforts of the Orion Township Fire and Rescue Department, a family dog was able to be saved after a house fire on Aubrey in the Preserves Subdivision off Waldon Road on Feb. 5.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, the dog, along with the family’s cat, were found in an upstairs bedroom after Orion Fire fought the blaze.
The cat was deceased, but the dog was still breathing, and was given CPR and oxygen while enroute to a 24-hour veterinarian clinic.
The OCSD said a babysitter, who was watching two toddlers in the home at the time of the fire, said she was standing at the kitchen sink when she saw a glow reflected in the kitchen window, coming from the living room area.
She said she ran into the living room, saw flames in the corner, and yelled for everyone to get out of the house, as three teenage friends were also in the home at the time.
She said she grabbed the children and went to a neighbor’s house to call 911.
Orion Fire said flames could be observed coming from the front of the home upon their arrival.
The dog that was rescued is reportedly doing fine and is back with the family.
