Michigan State University’s Michigan Political Leadership Program (MPLP) announced the selection of Daniel J. Kelly, of Clarkston, as a recipient of a political leadership fellowship.
Mr. Kelly was chosen from a pool of over 100 candidates for the public policy and leadership training program that runs annually from February through November.
Mr. Kelly is an attorney and equity partner in the Troy-based law firm Cox Hodgman and Giarmarco, P.C. He serves as a board trustee for Independence Township and also serves as the board representative for the Independence Township Planning Commission.
‘I am honored to have been selected for this prestigious fellowship and am excited by the educational opportunities it offers,? said Kelly.
Kelly and 23 other individuals from across the state will take part in a rigorous ten-month curriculum on practical politics, public policy analysis and process, personal leadership development and effective governance.
Each fellowship is valued at $12,000 and equips graduates with the necessary skills to facility public policy decisions, to serve as effective leaders and government officials, and to run campaigns for political office.
This multi-partisan program is distinguished as one of only a handful of programs of its kind in the nation.
It is directed by James G. Agee and Anne M. Mervenne. Agee is a former Democratic state legislator and serves as president of J.G. Agee Consultants, Inc. Mervenne is president of Mervenne and Partners, a governmental consulting firm. Previously, she served 12 years in the Engler administration, most recently as a member of the senior management team.
