Upgrading pump stations

Oakland County received an OK from Lake Orion Village Council members on Feb. 14 to improve eight pump stations in the village. The county plans on changing the pump stations from single-phase to three phase generator connections.
According to county officials, one standard portable generator would then be available at each pump station. This would eliminate the need to transport more than one type of generator during a power outage.
The village will pay $4,200 to cover the cost of the improvements. LO Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel said there’s money in the budget to cover this expense.
Council members also authorized the county’s drain commissioner to apply for a Homeland Security grant to install a fixed generator at the pump station at the end of Oaklane.
