The Oxford Girls Ski Team has been kicking butt out on the slopes of Mt. Holly. Their record is 5-1 while placing second at the Mt. Holly Divisional race, qualifying for the SEMSL race.
In the regional match at Pine Knob, 15 teams competed and the Brandon-Oxford girls worked extraordinarily hard to earn 5th place. The team was awarded an admirable 12th place overall.
Everything started at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17 when the boys and girls had to race in their two slalom runs. There were 87 girls and 88 boys running these courses. At 1 p.m. all of these kids had to flip around and race giant slalom.
Then around 5 p.m. the award ceremony started where they handed out medals to the top ten girls and boys for each slalom and giant slalom. The top ten girls and boys would all be able to go to states, which would be held at Boyne Mountain on Feb. 28. The top 3 teams of the 15 were also able to all go to states, but there is a loop-hole that if you are in the top 4 individuals, meaning you are one of the top 4 kids that is not on one of the top 3 teams, then you are also invited to states.
Grace Aucterlonie got a 38th in slalom and a 27th in giant slalom. Miranda Christen got a 16th in slalom and a 23rd in GS. While Heather Tiffany was able to achieve a 50th in slalom and then a 61st in slalom.
The Brandon-Oxford team sent one of their girls to states for both slalom and giant slalom. Karen Offer took 11th in slalom and 11th in giant slalom. She qualified as the 3rd individual for slalom and the 4th individual in giant slalom.
Offer competed at states and out of 64 girls she came in 39th in slalom and 49th in giant slalom.
The Brandon-Oxford ski team is sad to see the season end, but if you are a good skier and are interested in taking up a varsity sport for next winter, we would be glad to have you.
