Goodrich lifters feel the power at recent competition

The Goodrich High School powerlifting team received a big lift to their psyches during a recent meet.
At the Peck Invitational Feb. 26 in Peck (which is located in the thumb area of Michigan), the Martians excelled from among a group of 12-15 teams that attended the meet.
The girls team finished first at the meet, while the boys junior varsity also finished in first, and the boys varsity took second.
Goodrich coach John Bradburn said the team has competed in about five meets this season, with a regional meet in Vassar coming up March 11, and then the state meet coming up March 18.
He said there are about a dozen middle school/junior varsity lifters on the Goodrich team, along with five varsity lifters and six female lifters.
‘We practice Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays after school until about 4:30-5 p.m.,? he said. ‘The season lasts from the time fall sports end until the end of the March. Some of the students lift year-round.?
Bradburn said the team’s top lifters at the varsity level are Mike Bradburn (who competes in the 207-lb. weight class) and Tony Valente (who competes at 145 lbs.).
In addition, at the junior varsity level, eighth-grader Jacob Winston took first place in a recent regional meet, competing at 181 lbs. On the female side, John Bradburn said Goodrich senior Meredith Mayberry has been involved with the club for four years.
