Busy offseason ahead for Brandon cagers after district loss to Clarkston

Brandon’s boys basketball team wanted to go against the best in district action.
They got their wish when they played perennial powerhouse Clarkston in the district opener Feb. 28. Despite losing 74-40, Brandon coach Tim Donnan said he was proud of how hard the Blackhawks competed.
‘I wanted to play Clarkston because it seems like they are the program that sets the bar for the schools in this area,? Donnan said. ‘I don’t think the final score dictated how hard we competed. We were down by 10 at the half. It was good for our guys to see that we could compete with a program such as Clarkston.?
The Blackhawks finished their season with an overall record of 4-17, and a Flint Metro League record of 4-8, good for fifth place in the league.
Now that the season is finished, Donnan said a conditioning and weightlifting program will begin after spring break for those team members not involved in a spring sport.
In June, the Blackhawks will use their 15 competition days allotted to them by the Michigan High School Athletic Association. Donnan said the Blackhawks plan to play about 40 games in a three-week span.
Brandon landed three players on this year’s all-Flint Metro League team. Forward Donald Carter made the second team, while guard Gary Glasby and center Andrew Koenig earned honorable mention status.
All three will return to next year’s team, and Donnan said they will be expected to step up and be solid contributors along with two other returnees, point guard Adrain Harges and guard Phil Sache.
