CORA Rehabilitation Clinic
At CORA Rehabilitation Clinic in Ortonville, the goal is to help patients recover their physical abilities after an illness or injury so they can return to work and play.
The clinic, open since November 2003, has three staff members– Lynette Griffin, a physical therapist and clinic manager; Jodie Sarginson, an occupational therapist; and Pam Williamson, patient services coordinator.
‘It’s nicer with a small clinic and staff,? says Williamson. ‘There is more one-on-one attention and personalized care.?
Griffin has a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in physical therapy from Oakland University. She specializes in helping patients recover from neck, back and leg injuries.
Sarginson has a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Baker’s College and is an expert in aiding patients who have had hand and arm injuries.
At CORA (Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Services) there are a number of exercise machines available to assist patients. Sarginson and Griffin also use manual, joint, and massage techniques to strengthen patients and provide pain relief, depending on the individual diagnosis. Hot and cold treatments are also used to relieve symptoms and speed recovery. Patients of all ages and maladies, including orthopedic disorders, sports or work-related injuries and neurological or neuromuscular conditions, are treated.
‘I take someone who has a disability and fix them, restore their functioning,? said Griffin.
CORA is an independent clinic, not affiliated with a hospital system. Because of this, Griffin and Sarginson can spend as much time as needed with patients, without constraints.
Some patients are not aware that they can go to a local clinic; they believe they must go to one that is identified on their physical therapy script, even if it’s out of town. At CORA, the staff checks patients? insurance to verify that the clinic is a provider in their insurance network. CORA accepts most insurance plans. This gives the patient the option for exceptional care close to home. Immediate openings are usually available.
At CORA, a personalized home health program is part of the treatment plan, involving the patient in recovery.
‘We have an excellent success rate in pain management and functional outcome,? said Griffin. ‘We just want to make you feel better.?
