The Orion Township Fire Department and Oakland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a man ingesting windshield de-icer at the Waldon Lakes Apartments on Joslyn Road on May 7.
According to an OCSD report, the 72-year-old man who lived in the apartment on Mapleview Drive was being watched by a caregiver, a 59-year-old Waterford woman who works for a caregiving company.
The woman told the OCSD the man is mentally handicapped and needs constant supervision. She said he went outside and got into the group care van, and came back inside, telling her he had sprayed windshield de-icer into his mouth.
She was unable to confirm if he had ingested the de-icer, but she said due to the man’s suicidal history, she decided to call the Orion Fire Department and OCSD.
The man was transported to POH via ambulance for further evaluation.
