Softball takes district crown

The Lake Orion varsity softball team improved their record to 33-3-2, and won the district #16 championship on June 3.
The Dragons defeated Romeo, 2-0, in the semifinals. Robin Roe tossed a four-hitter for her 23rd victory.
In the fifth inning, Natalie Hunt led off with a single, and Lauren LaPine and Sam Bell sacrificially bunted her to third. Nichole Woityra singled Hunt home.
In the sixth inning, Bristel Brumitt reached first on an error by the third baseman.
Layne Smedley entered as a pinch runner, and raced to second on a foul fly to the catcher. Smedley advanced to third on a fly ball to the right fielder, and with two out, Hunt drove in Smedley with a single.
Both Hunt and Woityra had two hits for the game.
The Dragons played against Oxford in the district championship game.
Roe tossed a four-hitter shutout again, her 24th victory.
The score was 0-0, when Brumitt drove in Woityra in the fifth inning.
Brumitt had three hits for the game, and LaPine, Bell and Amber Agro added two hits each to the Dragons? 12-hit attack.
Lake Orion faces Utica Ford in the regional semi-finals on June 11 at Fraser High School. Game time is 10:30 a.m.
