Dog Days: Sidewalk sales, dogs

Looking for a good sale? Want to show off your favorite dog? The Village of Lake Orion is the place to be next weekend.
Downtown Lake Orion is hosting its annual Dog Days on Aug. 12-13. Sidewalk sales and a village-wide garage sale take place on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Participaing residents will have DTLO signs on their lawns and also be listed in an official garage sale map.
Maps will be available by stopping by at 22 West Flint Street or calling the the Downtown Lake Orion office at 248-693-9742 on or after Aug. 10.
Businesses will bring their merchandize outside and village residents have scheduled garage sales.
Dogs are the main attraction on Saturday. Beginning at noon at the Lake Orion Pet Center, residents can bring their dogs to the center to participate in a dog parade. The pet center is located at 46 East Flint Street.
LO United Methodist Church pastors will be on hand to conduct a non-denominational ‘Blessing of the Dogs.?
Prizes will be awarded for Best Costume, Hottest Dog, Biggest Dog, Best Trick, Best Singer .
Residents who think their dogs are extra special can submit applications for them to be Doggie Mayor of Lake Orion. Forms can be picked up at the village offices on Flint Street; the DDA office on Flint Street or Orion Township offices on Joslyn Road.
The winning candidate wins a custom pet portrait by local artist Kim Santini and grooming certificate from LO Pet Center.
The day ends with musical entertainment and a free movie ‘Cats and Dogs? at Atwater Park beginning at 9 p.m.
Bring a blanket and sit in the outfield for the movie. Kiddie-oriented entertainment begins at 7 p.m.
