7-Eleven gets OK to seek liquor license

If the Liquor Control Commission (LCC) approves, 7-Eleven could soon be opening its doors for a 24-hour operation on Lapeer Road, between Clarkston and Heights.
The Orion Township Board of Trustees voted Sept. 19 to forward information to the LCC that 7-Eleven is in compliance with the township to seek a Special Designated Merchant (SDM) liquor license, to sell beer and wine to be taken off premise.
The board voted to ask the LCC that the township maintain the right of final inspection.
The proposed location for the 7-Eleven is in the Express Plaza, at 702 South Lapeer. The township zoning board of appeals rethat location as a 24-hour operation.
‘The zoning board of appeals originally turned down 7-Eleven for a 24-hour location at Baldwin and Clarkston,? said trustee Matt Gibb, who also serves on the ZBA.
?(The Lapeer Road location) is certainly more appropriate (for being open 24 hours),? he added.
Harvey Blitz, sale manager for the 7-Eleven Corporation out of Livonia, attended the meeting and told the board that although the current application was for 7-Eleven Incorporated, the agreement would be amended to include a franchisee’s name.
‘He will be added as co-licensee,? Blitz said.
