Several district musicians recently received state honors for accomplishments on various instruments.
Lake Orion High School students Michelle Lewandowski and Laura Potocki have been named to the 2006 Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association’s All-State Band.
Lewandowski and Potocki, both clarinetists, will perform with the All-State Band on Jan. 19 at the Michigan Music Educators In-Service Conference in Grand Rapids.
Two Scripps Middle School musicians have been selected to be members of the 1st Annual Michigan All-State Band at the middle school level.
McKenna Jander (flute) and Mary Ouzonian (bassoon) will be among the 100 or so musicians in the band, selected from the over 500 school band programs across the state.
Also, several Oakview students participated at the MSBOA Solo and Ensemble Festival held at Scripps.
Earning the highest possible rating, first division, were soloists Melanie Kranker (oboe), Kelsey Lee (piano), Miles McCatty (euphonium) and Billy Puuri (marimba and snare drum)
Ensembles earning first division ratings included Becky Houston, Patrice Leko, Kathy McClain and Kristin Pavliscak (flute and oboe quartet), Chelsea Blumbergs and Ashlyn Kruger (horn and saxophone duet), Lynsey Comeau and Bridget Walton (clarinet and bass clarinet duet), Dean Hopper and Dillon Fitzgerald (saxophone duet) and Cammie Lucas and Jim McNulty (oboe and bassoon duet)
Soloists receiving a second division rating were Catherine Chan (cello), Drew Duffiney (clarinet) and Kathryn Miller (flute).
Three duets also earned second division ratings, including John Bieda and Nathan Ziolko (both on saxophone), Alex Haddad and Johnathan Schepper (on trumpet and tuba) and Desiree Pruett and Gabby Soltis (on flute and cello).
