St. Patrick’s Day appears to have been a mild night in Independence and Springfield Townships with very few alcohol related driving offenses reported.
As of the morning of March 20, neither substations of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department had any reports of alcohol related driving offenses for March 17. One drunk driving arrest was reported in Independence Township at around 2:30 a.m. March 18 by the Michigan State Police post in Groveland Township.
‘We expected more with St. Patrick’s Day being on a Friday,? said Lieutenant Dale LaBair of the Independence Township substation. ‘Either they got lucky or found other ways to get where they were going.?
LaBair said the substation was aware of the potential for more drunk drivers than usual due to the holiday.
‘I don’t think (arrests made) were low, but it was low here,? said LaBair who explained that the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Alcohol Enforcement Unit was on duty.
Calls to the AE Unit were not immediately returned.
