Gymnasts from across the state assembled at the end of March for the Michigan State Championships in Men’s Gymnastics.
The boys from the Gymnastic Training Center of Rochester took many team awards and individual awards.
Here are the highlights for the Lake Orion competitors:
GTC’s level four boys took third place as a team. Jacob Maurer landed a top ten finish in the all-around and went home with a pair of silver medals for rings and high bar.
The level five boys had a similar adventure to the level four’s. The team took third place helped by Andrew Ferguson’s fourth place finish on floor. Alex and Michael Roberts also contributed to the team’s strong placing.
The level six team from GTC staked their claim as the best level six team in the state. Charlie Maurer helped his team by winning the state title on rings and finishing seventh in the all-around. Brandon Moore posted all top ten finishes and took sixth place overall. Alec Krystek took eighth place all-around. And rounding out the top ten all-around finishers was Dominik Isham.
The level seven boys came to compete and they did good work. Dillon Siterlet won a pair of silver medals for his work on vault and parallel bars and took fourth place all around.
The level eight team was full of solid performances. Curtis Loveday took home a collection of awards including three bronze medals for floor, high bar and the all-around. Loveday also took silver on parallel bars. Joe Fraga finished fifth all-around as well.
The boys in all levels were not just trying to get on the podium, but aiming for a qualifying score for regionals.
In all, 20 boys from GTC attained their qualifying score to compete in Louisville, Kentucky with the top boys in the five state region of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
