Head coach Dale Kirk had high hopes for his Junior Varsity baseball team at Lake Orion High School this season, but little did he know that his toughest opponent would be Mother Nature.
The team had 11 games eliminated from their schedule due to bad weather. However, all was not lost as the team took first place in their OAA I league.
The program had an 8-3 league record and were 15-6 overall. They played 12 different opponents and defeated every opponent at least once.
The Dragons? league opposition included Clarkston, Farmington, Kimball, Rochester, Troy and West Bloomfield. The team had non-league victories over Ann Arbor Pioneer, Detroit Catholic Central, Dakota, Chippewa Valley and Novi.
Some of Coach Kirk’s on field season highlights included, ‘Drew Ordakowski setting the tone for the Dragons? season when he led off the first game of the season against Pioneer with a home run.
‘Another was a double play in the championship game of the Chippewa Valley tournament when first baseman Rob Nowicki got the second out of the double play when he threw to home to pitcher Mike Musary, who was covering the plate and made the tag in a cloud of dust which caused the Dragons? bench to erupt. Lake Orion went on to win the championship game 13-6 over host Chippewa Valley.
‘A third highlight was scoring 11 runs with two outs against Novi in a 12-2 win.?
This was the fourth year that coach Kirk was at the helm of the J.V. program. He said it was, ‘the first time his team was made up of all sophomores, which made it special.
‘Also, the league championship, the Chippewa Valley tournament championship, the wiffle ball tournaments and the all important imaginary teammate Shane made the season memorable.?
Please contact the J.V. coaches or players if you would like more information about Shane.
