Longtime Goodrich Soccer Club volunteer stepping down

Since the Goodrich Soccer Club first started nine years ago, Jan Martin has had an impact on how the club has been run.
Pretty soon, though, she will step aside from her many duties with the club and make way for others to take on those responsibilities.
Martin, a Goodrich resident, said she plans on leaving ‘almost immediately,? after filling the equipment bags for the coaches in the club to get them ready for the fall season, as well as getting the teams? uniforms for distribution.
‘I feel it’s time someone else stepped in and kept the program running for the kids,? she said.
During her tenure with the club, Martin said she has done ‘everything? to keep it running smoothly, including organizing leagues, advertising, ordering uniforms and equipment, and building goals for the fields.
Despite the fact she has not had a child involved with the club since 1999 (when her son Joel, now 16, played), Martin said she has garnered plenty of enjoyment from the club.
‘I enjoy doing a fun activity for the community,? she said. ‘I like watching the kids have fun.?
The Goodrich Soccer Club first started in 1997, Martin said, when the Goodrich soccer coach wanted to start a program. About 40 people initially took part in the club the first year.
‘From that, we slowly got larger,? she said.
Currently, the club has four boys travel teams (U10, U12, U13 and U16) as well as three girls travel teams (U12, U14 and U19). In addition, the club has recreational leagues at the U6, U8, U10 and U12 levels.
