Barbershop Chorus sing for Tigers

The Big Chief Barbershop Chorus sang the National Anthem at Comerica Park on Tuesday, August 8 to kick off the Tigers game against the Minnesota Twins.
The chorus is made up of 60 men from northern Oakland County, including Oxford residents Bob Brain, Lyle Howard, Irwin ‘Doc? Mann, Dave Monroe, Bill Nevaux and Tom Tailford. The privilege of being on the field with the league-leading Tigers and a crowd of more than 35,000 fans was an awesome feeling.
The hospitality of the Tiger Organization in hosting the chorus and their families was fantastic.
The Big Chief Chorus was also hosted recently by the Oxford Downtown Development Authority at the Concerts in the Park at Centennial Park on July 27. Amanda Cassidy and Kurt Kuhn were very gracious in giving the Barbershoppers the opportunity to perform in Oxford.
The Big Chief Chorus, which was formed in 1943 at the General Motors Truck and Coach Facility, entertains frequently at schools, festivals, senior residences and parades.
The chorus practices weekly every Tuesday evening from 7:30 until 10 p.m.
During the summer months they meet at Waterford Oaks County Park located at 1712 Scott Lake Rd. in Waterford.
