Mozart with a ring

Goodrich- At Thursday’s choir concert, students will be able to show off their skills with both voices and bells.
‘We fundraised all year last year to get brass hand bells,? said Jennifer Davis, choir director at Goodrich High School.
Davis said students raised just under $3,000 and received community donations of about $4,000 for the purchase of the three octave set of 37 bells.
Twenty-three of the bells are inscribed with the name of music supporter Peggy VanVlack as a memorial, said Davis, so the upcoming concert will be a celebration of her life as well.
Davis explained the half-hour concert will serve as a brief introduction to another choral season.
In honor of the 250th anniversary of his birth, Davis settled upon a Mozart themed concert, with half of the performance being vocal and the remainder being bells.
Goodrich High School students in grades 9-12 will perform such compositions as Ave Zerum Corpus, Eine Kleine Nacht Music, Gloria and Lovely Stars, Beautiful Stars.
‘It’s a celebration of Mozart’s music, ? explained Davis, who has been teaching in Goodrich about four years. ‘I wanted to get the kids some historical reference.?
The concert will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Raymond C. Green Center for the Performing Arts in Goodrich High School, 8029 Gale Road.
