Stedman’s 17 leads Brandon cagers to district title game

Familiarity bred a successful result for the Brandon varsity girls basketball team in their Nov. 15 district semifinal game.
Brandon senior Savannah Stedman scored a game-high 17 points as the Blackhawks defeated Flint Metro League rival Fenton 39-29 in a Nov. 15 Class A district semifinal game on the Tigers? home court. It was the third meeting of the year between the two teams.

Brandon Coach Bryan Ray said although Grand Blanc has a great player in Pam Wilson, an all-Big 9 Conference selection, the Blackhawks are capable of pulling out the victory.
‘They don’t have an answer for Savannah, so we have to play great defense and get the ball inside to her,? Ray said. ‘It’s a winnable game for us.?
Ray said in addition to Stedman, sophomore Kim Michal came up big in the scoring department against the Tigers, hitting two crucial three pointers in the first half. One of those came at the end of the half, and put the Blackhawks up 23-11 at intermission.
Michal wound up scoring eight points for the Blackhawks.
‘That was really big for us,? Ray said. ‘I knew Kim was going to have a good game for us. I told her to look for her shot.?
In addition, Ray said sophomore forward Danielle Kwasiborski did a good job defensively for the Blackhawks.
Emily Idoni led the Tigers with 15 points, while Christina Rivette added 12 points. Fenton finished their season with a 15-6 record.
