Saturn of Clarkston is teaming up with The Kaleidoscope Foundation to auction off one 2007 Saturn Sky Redline Turbo to raise funds for a new foundation facility.
The Kaleidoscope Foundation provides programs for senior citizens and people with disabilities in the seven townships, including Springfield and Independence, of Oakland County.
Kaleidoscope was formed in 1988 to provide recreational programs for people with disabilities. It serves Independence, Springfield, Rose, White Lake, Highland, Groveland, and Holly townships, said Helen Vergin, Kaleidoscope volunteer.
‘It’s like a family,? Vergin said. ‘Seniors love to eat, play cards, and socialize.?
They hold 3-4 programs each month, including Monday dinners, cards, dances, bingo, and holiday parties.
‘People come from all over,? she said. ‘So many live alone ? this is one way for them to get together.?
Kaleidoscope is run on a volunteer basis, so all proceeds will go to programming.
Goals include locating a site for a new center. It would have a large room for meetings, activities, and dinners, and space for art, craft, and music programs, therapy, and socializing.
“We are in a new phase of the program at Kaleidoscope which is raising money to build our own facility central to all of the communities we service,” said Tom Delke, owner of Saturn of Clarkston and a Board of Directors member for Kaleidoscope.
One-hundred percent of the money raised by this and any fundraiser put on by Kaleidoscope goes toward helping the people in need, said Delke.
Most of the money earned by this auction will go toward building the new facility, with some of it going toward the every-day operations.
One-thousand raffle tickets are being sold for $100 each for the high-level, high-performance vehicle.
The drawing will be held on April 14.
