Lakes Community Credit Union celebrates 70th Anniversary

Although the Lake Orion branch opened in January of 2002, Lakes Community Credit Union has been doing business for 70 years, offering a full array of financial services and products.
The main branch in Lake Orion offers services to help any member, whether they are starting an account for their child, purchasing their first car, buying the house of their dreams or finally realizing retirement dreams.
Lakes is a full-service financial institution, and they offer a wide variety of mortgage products to help members find the perfect fit for them.
Anyone who lives or works in Oakland County is eligible for membership. Credit unions are ‘not for profit? cooperatives, meaning they are owned and run by the membership.
Because Lakes is a non-profit organization, they are able to return their earnings to the membership in the form of high-return savings accounts and low-rate loans.
Lakes offers an outstanding Home Equity Program, and you can ‘drive your best deal? with their fantastic new and used car rates.
In addition, Lakes also offers Boat and RV Loans, as well as Vacation and Special Event Signature Loans.
When a member is ready to create a ‘nest egg,? Lakes offers a variety of investment tools from Youth Stow Away Savers Club, Money Market and Special Savings Accounts, to Certificates and IRAs.
Lakes also offers bill payer, Visa Gift Cards and a Visa Rewards Program.
Members will also find low or no fee checking accounts, complete with ATM and DEBIT card services, as well as bounce protection, at Lakes.
Lakes offers 24-hour banking opportunities with audio and Internet services, at no charge to membership.
Lakes combines their philosophy of quality service with a hometown feel, with the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people.? They also extend that philosophy to the surrounding community, promoting youth financial literacy and a Mini Grant Program.
Lakes has a Youth Loan Program and a Marketing Team committed to educating young people about the dangers of credit card debt and how to use financial tools wisely, as well as the importance of a good credit score.
Lakes staff will be participating in the Senior All Night Parties at Lake Orion and Oxford High School, speaking about the dangers of credit card debt and keeping a balanced checkbook. They also offer Teen Financial Workshops.
Lakes also will be holding a seminar for high school students.
In the past year, Lakes has doubled their Mini Grant Program, awarding four mini grants per school year, each valued at $250, to Orion and Oxford educators.
