Parking violation fees could rise in township

Parking in the wrong place might soon cost you an extra $10.
The Orion Township board is looking at increasing all fines currently set at $30 to $40, based on a recommendation from Lieutenant Bruce Naile. Fines have not increased since 1995.
A first reading on the action was held last week and the second reading, and possible adoption, is set for next Monday’s meeting.
Among the fines that will be effected are parking in front of a fire hydrant, parking in a posted fire lane, blocking a crosswalk, sidewalk, alley, roadway, drive, safety path or traffic, and parking over 48 hours.
The fine for parking in a handicap space is to remain at $100.
