Ortonville- Homemade is the theme of Beets, Beats and Eats and vendors are currently being sought for the 2007 12-week summer series in which artisans display their talents Friday nights at Crossman Park.
‘We’re trying to keep this handmade and support the people in our community,? says BB&E Market Manager Pam Belding. ‘It’s an opportunity to inspire community spirit… I want to see what people around here can do.?
Vendors can reserve an 8-foot by 8-foot space for $10 per week or book a space for the entire season for a 20-percent discount. Beets, Beats and Eats runs 6-9 p.m. Fridays from July 13-Sept. 28.
Belding is interested in persons selling organic food, homemade jewelry, notecards, pottery, and more. Some artists are already booked, such as Aunt Karen’s Cookies, with oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies, and pecan pies.
Musicians are also invited, and can play for free, just bring an instrument, says Belding.
Last year, BB&E saw increasing success, particularly with Ortonville United Methodist Church providing homemade dinners every Friday night at the park for $5 per person. Some weeks saw 200-300 people at the event.
Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Janine Saputo says the church will continue the hot meals, with the menu varying from week to week.
Saputo is looking into additional draws for children, including inflatables, such as a moonwalk.
Space is available for 20 vendors per week, possibly more. Location is based on first-come, first-served.
