A Brandon Township man was arrested April 27 after he called police to tell them he had just tried to cut off his girlfriend’s head.
Robert Logan, 38, was arraigned in front of Magistrate Dan O’Brien on the same day in 52-2 District Court in Clarkston on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and felonious assault.
The victim suffered a shallow 3-inch wound to the front of her neck after the man sliced her with a knife. She did not receive medical attention.
According to police reports, it was about 2:46 a.m., April 27 when deputies were dispatched to the Shell gas station at the corner of M-15 and Glass Road after Logan called. Brandon deputies found him there, intoxicated, without a weapon. He told police he wished he had cut her head off and still would, if he could.
The victim said she had let Logan stay at her home for four months in late 2006 and had rarely seen him since. On the night of April 27, she was at an area establishment when she saw him come in around 9 p.m. and watch the Detroit Red Wings hockey game. Logan was later removed from the establishment for being disruptive. According to witness statements, he returned, walked behind the victim, grabbed her head, and made a slicing motion across the front of her neck with a black-handled knife. The victim, who had been drinking, said she felt pain and as the suspect left, she felt her neck and saw blood on her fingers. She later told police she didn’t want to call police because Logan had mental problems and she didn’t want to cause problems.
A preliminary examination is scheduled for Logan at 8:30 a.m., May 10, in front of 52-2 District Court Judge Kelley Kostin. Logan is being held in the Oakland County Jail on $1 million bond, no 10 percent. Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Felonious assault is punishable by up to four years in prison.
