An Oxford teacher was jailed Tuesday after being charged with sexually abusing his 14-year-old adopted daughter.
Gerard Robert Wilson, 48, of Commerce Twp., was arraigned on four felony counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in Novi’s 52-1 District Court.
‘CSC second-degree is a charge that alleges sexual touching with somebody under the age of 13 or someone between the ages of 13 and 14 where the defendant is related by blood or affinity. So, he fits into that category,? said Robert Giles, an assistant prosecutor and section leader of the child sexual assault unit. ‘I believe there were at least four separate incidents.?
If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison. He’s currently being lodged in the Oakland County Jail in lieu of a $4 million bond. ‘It’s $1 million for each count,? Giles said.
Wilson teaches science tech classes at Oxford Middle School and a video/media class at Oxford High School. He’s worked for the district since November 1999 and had previously taught engineering/drawing classes. OMS and OHS are the only two schools in the district he’s worked at during his employment here.
Middle School Principal Ken Weaver said he was ‘shocked? and ‘deeply concerned? when he received the ‘troubling? news of Wilson’s arrest.
Weaver stressed the criminal charges against Wilson have ‘nothing to do? with any Oxford students. A letter explaining the situation to parents will be sent home with students, the principal noted.
There have never been any complaints, of a sexual nature or otherwise, against Wilson, according to Assistant Superintendent Nancy Kammer.
Wilson’s adopted daughter was the one who made headlines recently when she ran away from home and was found at the Highlander Motel in Waterford Township with a 27-year-old Texas man named Richard Carrasco. She met him on the Internet.
The girl is in protective custody at Children’s Village in Pontiac.
