Brandon Twp.- A 28-year-old Ypsilanti man who drove his vehicle into his brother-in-law has been arraigned on a felonious assault charge.
James Tiung Huie was arraigned Sept. 17 on the charge in front of 52-2 District Court Magistrate Elizabeth Chiapelli.
According to police reports, Brandon deputies were dispatched on Sept. 16 to the 2800 block of Mulberry after a man called 9-1-1 and advised that two subjects were arguing and one tried to run over the other with his vehicle.
The 35-year-old victim said he, his two young sons, and Huie had just returned from a trip up north. One of the boys had cried for about 20 minutes on the way home and when they arrived at the home on Mulberry, Huie began arguing with his sister, the victim’s wife, about the child’s behavior. When she asked her brother to leave, he charged her, and her husband stepped between them, escorting Huie from the home. Huie began hitting and kicking him, including a kick to the victim’s face after he fell.
They moved to the street, where Huie got in his vehicle, started it up and intentionally swerved it at the victim, striking him, according to the victim and several witnesses. Huie then backed up and tried unsuccessfully to hit the victim a few more times. Huie left and returned a few minutes later, yelling he was going to kill his sister and brother-in-law and burn their house down. He then went into his mother and stepfather’s house in the same block.
The victim is seeking treatment for neck and back pain.
Huie remains in the Oakland County Jail on $100,000 bond, no 10 percent. A preliminary exam has been set for 8:30 a.m., Sept. 24, in front of 52-2 District Court Judge Dana Fortinberry.
