Boy Scout Troop 128 celebrated America with their observation of Patriot’s Day, by hosting a Readyman training activity for Orion area Webelos, as well as a Flag Retirement Ceremony.
Led by Senior Patrol Leader Nick McKenna, with the help of Eagle Scouts Craig Marchand and Brandon Walters and various Troop 128 scouts, training and testing in first aid, safe swim defense and CPR was offered for more than two-dozen Webelos.
The troop presented, with the help of guest victims Rachel McKenna and Amanda Stanley, a first aid demonstration, complete with first aid scenarios for severe bleeding, snakebites, burns and shock.
Following the training, the Webelos receieved individual certificates of completion.
The flag retirement ceremony was held at St. Mary’s Scout Chapel, which was built for the church as an Eagle Scout Project.
SPL McKenna led the ceremony which featured a history of the “Star Spangled Banner,” a tribute to the U.S. flag and a review of the U.S. Flag Code.
Almost 50 flags had been turned in for the retirement ceremony, and the Webelos and Scouts of Troop 128 made a formal presentation of the flags and then the flags were processed for formal burning and retirement.
Based on the huge response for the Readyman activity, Troop 128 has decided to offer a second opportunity for participation on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
For registration information, area Webelos should e-mail LOTroop128Scouts@aol.com, or call Donna Davis-Daisley at (248)391-2005.
Troop 128 is chartered by St. Mary’s In-The-Hills Episcopal Church in Orion.
