A 24-year-old Detroit woman was arraigned Dec. 14 on multiple charges after an altercation with Brandon deputies.
Jenea Nickoli Manley was arraigned at 52-2 District Court on one charge of police officer assault/resisting and obstructing a police officer; a charge of operating license forgery/alteration/false identification; and operating while license suspended, revoked or denied.
According to police reports, a Brandon deputy was on patrol on southbound Ortonville Road near Seymour Lake Road on Dec. 13 when he observed a vehicle, later found to be driven by Manley, going 65 mph in a 50 mph zone. He made a traffic stop and Manley didn’t have proof of insurance or registration and said she’d left her license at home. She initially gave a false name and the deputy found a similar name in LEIN with the same address with a warrant. She denied it was her. He placed her in the back of his patrol car and asked for her purse, explaining she was not allowed to have it in the back of his vehicle. She refused. He asked again. A second deputy attempted to take the purse and a struggle ensued, during which she was told three times to let go. She was eventually secured and the purse was searched, in which they found her proper identification and learned she had two more warrants.
Her preliminary exam was scheduled for Dec. 21 in front of 52-2 District Court Judge Kelley Kostin.
