Vehicle doughnuts on Hummer Lake leads to injury accident

Brandon Twp.- Two township men are lucky to be alive after the car they were in struck a tree when the driver lost control while doing ‘doughnuts? on the ice of Hummer Lake.
According to police reports, deputies were called out to the 4000 block of Hummer Lake about 12:33 a.m. on Feb. 26. A woman who lives on the lake said she and her husband heard a commotion and upon investigation, she saw that a 1989 Chrysler Horizon had struck a tree. The front windshield had two holes and extensive damage from where the occupants had struck their heads.
The 22-year-old driver, who smelled of intoxicants, was outside the vehicle and told her he was doing doughnuts on the ice when he miscorrected and slammed into the tree. She asked where his passenger was, and he said he didn’t know. Before deputies arrived, the driver also disappeared. He was soon found and issued a ticket for reckless driving and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
The men were not seriously injured.
‘They’re lucky they weren’t killed,? said Sgt. Pete Burkett. ‘If they would have hit a crack in the ice, they could have gone through.?
