Goodrich – For many years the hollow of a tree on the property at the Rainbow Day Care Center has been vacant, but not anymore.
A Michigan eastern screech owl now calls the tree home.
Day care center teacher, Linda Stachelek said, ‘I noticed the owl living in the tree about two months ago. I have never seen an owl in that tree before and I have been a teacher here since it opened 18 years ago.?
Stachelek and the children decided to name the owl ‘Mr. Hoo.?
‘In the morning I always look outside to see if ‘Mr. Hoo? is standing in the doorway of the hole in the tree where we can see him. I can usually see his profile from the window inside. When I do, I say to the children, ‘Rainbow hears a Hoo!?
That’s when the children know it’s time to put on their jackets and go outside to visit their new friend, ‘Mr. Hoo.? ‘We have made it part of our daily routine,? said Stachelek.
An unusually friendly owl, Stachelek said, ‘There are days when he stands right out in plain sight for an entire day. The children love to go up to the tree to talk to him.?
