Former victim turns aggressor in bat assault

A 19-year-old Brandon Township man who was the victim of a baseball bat beating last year was on the other end of the bat last week and is now facing prison time.
Nicholas Jordan Goff was arraigned on April 15 in front of Magistrate Ragusso at 52-2 District Court on multiple charges, including home invasion- first degree, a felony punishable by 20 years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine; two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, each offense punishable by 10 years or a $5,000 fine; assault/resisting and obstructing a police officer, a felony punishable by two years and or $2,000; and domestic violence, a misdemeanor punishable by 93 days in jail or a $500 fine.
According to police reports, on April 11 Brandon deputies were dispatched to the 3900 block of Granger Road for an assault and battery with a baseball bat. They arrived to find the responsible, Goff, had fled. The homeowner said he had been awakened by yelling and outside found two men, one of whom was laying on the ground unconscious and bleeding from the head. The other, his daughter’s boyfriend, had a shoulder injury.
The complainant’s daughter said Goff, her ex-boyfriend, had showed up and wanted to fight her current boyfriend. She told him to leave and he pushed her to the ground a few times, at which time her boyfriend came out of the house to stop him.
Goff grabbed a baseball bat and swung at him. The victim ducked and then was struck in the shoulder. The victim’s friend then attempted to intervene and was struck on the head and face two or three times by the bat-wielding Goff.
The victim with the head injury was taken to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital and later told police he had a concussion, several broken bones in his face and will need reconstructive surgery.
On April 14, Brandon deputies were dispatched to the CHOICES alternative high school, 330 Sherman Court, to arrest Goff, a student there. Goff resisted arrest, striking the deputies with his fists before finally being tasered and transported to the Oakland County Jail.
Police reports indicate that Goff was the victim of a felonious assault with a baseball bat and tire iron on Sept. 18 as the result of a failed drug deal in the 3600 block of Hawthorne.
