Softball team struggles, needs work on offense

Tough week for the Oxford varsity girls softball team as it went 3-4.
‘Our defense is playing quite well and our pitching is doing quite well, it’s our offense that we’re lacking right now, but we’ve been working on that all week,? said Coach Sue Roeher.
Over the weekend, the team played a tournament in Owosso and unfortunately finished in last place after losing three straight. The girls lost the first game to Owosso 3-2. Allie Laidlaw went two for three while pitcher Corinne Luxton struck out nine batters.
Against Pinconning, the girls lost 3-0. Luxton struck out nine again and went two for three behind the plate. Swartz Creek defeated the girls 9-4 in the third and final game. Lauren LaCroix went two for two.
On Friday, April 18, the girls played a doubleheader against Rochester Adams.
Oxford won the first game 10-0. Luxton struck out 11 batters, went two for three with two RBIs and got her fourth home run of the season. LaCroix went was two for two with three runs scored. Rochester Adams came back in the second game and beat Oxford 4-2.
Oxford scored two victories over Davision April 15, winning the first game 6-3 and the second 11-2.
Luxton hit three home runs for the day, which Roeher called ‘pretty spectacular.? She also pitched both ends of the doubleheader and struck out 11 batters.
LaCroix was three for four in the first game while Kelly Cartner went two for three with three RBIs in the second game.
The girls play their first Flint Metro League opponent, Brandon, away on Thursday.
Right now, the team is 3-6 overall.
