The Brandon School Board will consider naming the new elementary school near Oakwood and Hadley roads, ‘Oakwood Elementary School? at the school board meeting on Monday.
The Brandon Schools Building and Site Committee recommended the name in keeping with the road where the building is located and with the local history of the location.
The opening of the new $18 million facility that will replace H.T. Burt Elementary School, will be delayed until the second week of April, say building and site committee members. The facility was scheduled to be opened for H.T. Burt students in January 2009. However, due to inclement winter weather, the project is six to eight weeks behind.
‘If we keep the opening of the building in January, then it will cost the district more overtime for the construction workers,? said Tom Miller, Brandon School District superintendent. ‘By moving the opening to April it will still cost the district more, but not to the extent of a January opening.?
