Sidewalk cost increase

Ortonville- An increase in the cost of cement and fuel prompted the village council to approve paying Orion Concrete an additional $2,460.03.
The council voted 4-3 in favor of the increase at their May 12 meeting. Harold Batten, Kay Green and Mary Kassuba voted no.
In October, the council approved Orion Concrete as the low bidder to replace sidewalks in the village. Orion Concrete agreed to replace sidewalks at $10.28 per linear foot for 4-inch thick concrete and $11.39 per linear foot for 6-inch thick concrete. The project was to cost $63,331.09 and cover sidewalks on both sides of Church Street from Mill Stret to Oakwood Road; the entire length of James Street on the west side; the west side of Narrin Street and around the corner and south side of Mill Street in front of 46 Mill St.; and the east side of Cedar Street from Mill Street to Schoolhouse Street.
The approved increase is 43 cents per foot, increasing the total cost to $65,801.12, said Village Manager Ed Coy.
