Lake Orion Baptist junior rightfielder Danny Fisher snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Juniata Christian in the Michigan Association of Christian Schools semifinals last week.
Fisher raced back and speared a line drive that would have easily scored the tying and winning runs for Juniata in the seventh inning.
The catch preserved a 7-6 victory for the Lions, who will head to the MACS state title game for the fourth consecutive year.
The Lions (20-4) started off flat, falling behind 6-1 to a team they beat twice the previous week.
The team awoke when Jacob Gardner came on in relief of Matt Cameron and silenced the Juniata bats. Gardner earned the win with three innings of no-hit ball.
The team’s comeback, meanwhile, started in the bottom of the fifth, where they picked up two runs. They added four more in the sixth, including a two out RBI single by Cameron, which scored Zach Halleck with the eventual winning run.
James Moreno had four of the team’s 11 hits on the day, scoring three times.
The team will now face Faith Baptist of Davison for the third straight year in the finals.
