Goodrich ‘It’s a good thing local bartender Dave Swanson drinks his mistakes.
Swanson, a bartender at Cranberries Cafe, just happened to pull out the wrong bottle while mixing up a martini. A quick sip of the ‘miss-mixed concoction? proved just the right blend.
‘It was a splash of cranberry juice, it seemed to make all of the difference,? said Swanson, who has worked at Cranberries for the past seven years. ‘I tasted it and then passed the drink around to customers and they said they really liked it. So as a lark, I decided to send my recipe in to Bartender Magazine. I completely forgot that I had sent it in. Then one day when I got home, I found a white envelope from Foley Publishing with my name on it. In it was the ‘Cocktailright? certificate with my original recipe and name printed on it.?
Foley Publishing Corporation, the creator of Bartender Magazine, has officially registered and issued Swanson a Cocktailright for his original drink recipe.
‘The ingredients are required to be unlike any other combination,? said Swanson.
‘I started out as a customer at Cranberries. I ended up being there all of the time, so I said to the owner, Patty Plant, ‘Hey, if you ever need someone to come in a make a few basic drinks, let me know, I live just down the street.? The next thing I knew she handed me a paper saying, here is your schedule.?
‘I think Dave’s martini is so refreshing,? said Plant, describing the light orange Swantini. ‘It has a really light fruity taste. The coconut ingredient reminds me of summer.?
Swanson’s recipe will be featured on Bartender.com. The new website, Swanson said, is for bartenders to stay up on the bartending industry.
‘That website gets over a million hits a month. I have a lot of respect for his publication. Ron Foley has been a professional bartender for over 20 years,? said Swanson.
