Dear Editor:
Over the last few weeks it seems there is still a lot of negativity toward Linda Owen, treasurer of Brandon Township. As was stated, her supporters encouraged her to have a recount since there were only 25 votes difference between Linda and her opponent. We do still live in a democracy and the people who worked on Linda’s campaign, as well as all those who voted for her, were disappointed at the loss. The narrow margin made the loss harder to accept.
After the recount, it was established the 25 vote margin only occurred due to the number of spoiled absentee ballots. Linda Owen would have won had the ballots been completed properly; i.e., only voting Republican or Democrat was permitted in the primary election.
It seems to me, the residents of Brandon Township should be grateful to Linda Owen, who has been the treasurer for five terms now and done a fantastic job for the township. People need to look back at her record and not focus on the negative aspects of politics.
If you don’t vote with the majority of the board all the time, but vote for what you feel is right for the township, what more can the residents ask?
In closing, we can only hope the next township treasurer continues to look out for the residents of the township, invests wisely, and oversees the spending as well as Linda Owen has done for the last 25 years.
You will be missed, Linda. Your supporters still encourage you to run in the general election as a write-in candidate. Thanks for all the years of dedication to the township.
