Speaker will discuss how to prepare students for global competition

An educational speaker who’s spoken to hundreds of thousands of educators in all 50 states will soon be imparting his wisdom in Oxford.
Dr. Willard Daggett, founder of the International Center for Leadership in Education, will speak on ‘Globalization, Competition and Education? on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Oxford High School Performing Arts Center.
Daggett’s community presentation will then be followed by an all-day visit Nov. 12 at the high school.
In his presentations, Daggett will emphasize what globalization means regarding our nation and our children’s generation.
According to James Schwarz, Oxford Schools Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, the speaker will discuss what it will take to be successful in a global marketplace and underscore the need for our children to be creative, innovative, and technologically savvy.
Furthermore, Daggett plans to talk about how it’s necessary for schools to become less departmentalized and employ a cross-curricular and applications-based instruction style.
Students need be instructed on how to solve predictable and unpredictable problems using an array of strategies and knowledge base of subject-matters, Daggett has stated.
In short, grasping concepts from various areas and using them to solve real-world problems.
?[Students] need to be able to grasp concepts from various areas and apply them together to solve a real-world problem,? Schwarz said. ‘Competition in the future global marketplace will rely on how well our students can be innovative, creative, and problem-solve. This message is extremely relevant to how we as educators approach our instruction. Instruction in our classrooms must mimic experiences that students could encounter in the real world of work.?
Schwarz feels that the visit with Daggett will cause people in Oxford to scrutinize what’s needed for future success when it comes to educational trends.
