The non-profit organization Lend a Helping Hand hosts its second annual bowlathon to help raise money for three local individuals struggling with cancer.
The bowlathon will be held Dec. 13 between 1:30-4 p.m. at Avon Hills North Lanes in Rochester Hills, 150 W. Tienken Road. The event is sponsored by the Social Work Club and the Honors Society at Oakland University.
‘OU is trying to get the students and Lend a Helping Hand is reaching beyond that,? said Michelle Phaup, founder and executive director of Lend a Helping Hand.
Donations will help support medical costs and treatments for local Clarkston resident Jean Cavalier with breast cancer, Birmingham resident Mark Roby with liver cancer, and Oxford resident Audrey Tenaglia, colon cancer. All donations are tax deductible.
Last year, $5,000 was raised for a woman battling colon cancer, noted Phaup.
‘We would like to raise $5,000 again this year, but it looks like it’s going to be tougher because of the economy,? she said. ‘Currently, we’re only on target to hit $2,000-$3,000. We’re hoping through advertising and publicity of getting the word out that we can get closer to our goal.?
Tickets are $25 per person or $100 for a team of four people, which includes three games, shoes, and pizza. There will also be a raffle for a flat screen television and an autographed Kid Rock T-shirt donated by Julie Thompson and Pam Ford Morgan of Morgan & Milzow.
Phaup said one of the most enjoyable moments for her last year was seeing families together.
‘I think that times are so busy now that it’s difficult for families to get together, we have so many things that we just have to do we’re burdened by chores and work,? she said. ‘This is a time that can be set aside to just go have fun as a family at the bowlathon.?
