Icers becoming more competitive

Oxford hockey Coach Dave Hague hoped his young squad would be competitive this season and learn how to win close games.
The team has responded very well, even in a couple of losses.
On Saturday, the Wildcats dominated Port Huron in a 4-2 win at Troy Sports Complex.
The team also beat Lapeer East, 3-2, and had losses of 1-0 to Kearsley and 4-2 to Marysville. A few lucky bounces and the Cats could easily have been 4-0 in those games.
Kearsley netted the only goal of the game with five minutes left to nip the Cats.
Goalie Corey Hrischuk was a standout in goal for Oxford.
In the Marysville game, the contest was tied 2-2 until a late goal with three minutes remaining put the Vikings ahead. They added an empty net goal in the final minute.
Will Buday had both goals for the Wildcats in the Marysville game.
In the Lapeer East victory, Oxford captain Ben McLoskey had two goals, while Buday added one and an assist. Hrischuk had 18 saves.
In last Saturday’s non-league match against Port Huron, the Cats dominated the game throughout.
Buday had his team-leading ninth goal of the season. Matt Reid and Dave Sampson each had a goal and an assist. Matt Zaun had two assists, while Chad Wicker also added a goal.
Goalie Anthony Barrett has 24 saves.
