Lady Cagers will take the holiday break and use it to their advantage to get ready for the next part of the season.
“The big thing for us is practicing during the break,” said Clarkston Girls Varsity Head Coach Tim Wasilk.
The girls are only three games into the season and each one resulted in a loss, but they are continuing to gel together as a team and grow defensively.
The break will give them time to adjust where they need to and help them improve from their loss to Lake Orion on Dec. 16, 52-32, Wasilk said.
“Lake Orion is a good team,” she said. “Their shooting was good. The team has been together for a while and it shows.”
Connor Daugherty put the girls on the board with one of her two throws at the free throw line and closed the Dragons’ lead by five points.
Erica Harris led the team for the rest of the first quarter adding 11 points to the score.
Lake Orion continued to widen the gap for the next two quarters going into the final eight minutes with a 28 point lead.
Daugherty’s interceptions led to the Dragons losing their chance to score and a chance for Clarkston. Daugherty passed to Kaleigh Kenny, leading to more baskets for the Wolves.
The girls defense only allowed one basket to get through from Lake Orion.
High scorers from Clarkston were Harris (13) and three 3-pointers, Daugherty and Mikaela Parrish (7).
For Lake Orion, Cortney Zott (14), Melanie Lamerato and Bethany Watterworth (12).
JV lost their game to the Dragons, 34-16.
The girls will return to the court in the New Year on Jan. 6 at Waterford Kettering and will host Rochester on Jan. 8.
