Students help needy keep warm this winter

Clear Lake Elementary’s fifth-graders are helping the less fortunate keep warm this winter by donating blankets and socks to the Baldwin Center in Pontiac.
Since 1981, the nonprofit human services agency has been feeding, clothing, educating, and empowering the disadvantaged men, women and children of Pontiac.
From January through March, the agency operates a warming center for the homeless.
‘We wanted an opportunity to give back to our community and we knew that was a place of need,? said teacher Jackie Wiscombe.
On Friday, Clear Lake’s fifth-graders worked together to make 15 no-sew polar fleece blankets for the center. They also donated about $90 worth of men’s and women’s socks and $100 to local families in need.
The kids raised $435 to finance the donations by selling Christmas pens in December.
