Teens land 30-inch pike at Powell Lake

Two friends ice fishing at Powell Lake on Jan. 25 got a bit of a surprise when they pulled in their catch.
Fourteen-year-old Mike Hansen and 15-year-old Carter Cornell, both ninth graders at Oxford High School, used a shiner on a tip-up to catch a Northern Pike.
The two were out ice fishing for about two hours when their line’s flag went up, indicating they’d caught something.
The fish took them about three minutes to pull in. This was the first time Cornell had fished at Powell Lake; Hansen (who lives next to the lake) had caught bass and bluegill there before but never pike.
The pike was about 30 inches long and made for some interesting eating.
‘It can be real bony if you don’t filet it right,? Hansen explained.
