It was close ? 289 votes to be exact ? but the Oxford school district’s $70.135 million bond proposal failed Tuesday.
Overall, voters throughout the 96-square-mile school district, which encompasses six townships in Oakland and Lapeer counties, rejected the proposal 2,191 to 1,902.
Among Oxford Township voters, the proposal passed by a slim margin of 1,497-1,454.
However, in neighboring Addison Township, voters soundly rejected the bond 518 to 240.
Brandon Township voters said ‘no? 170 to 124 and were joined by electors in Dryden, Metamora and Hadley townships who failed the proposal 49 to 41.
Of the 17,472 registered voters in the district, a total of 4,099 (or 23.46 percent) participated in the special election. ? CJC
