~~~It’s estimated Orion Township property assessments will rise by an average of 11 percent. Overall, Oakland County figures should increase about 6.9 percent.
~~~The Veterans of Foreign Wars’ posts of Lake Orion, Oxford and Leonard consolidated due to dwindling membership.
~~~Now that it appears the township will be providing the village with Detroit water, a study needs to be done on upgrading the village’s water system. Village engineers, Hubbell, Roth & Clark offered to do the study for free. Twelve companies bid on conducting the water study — with the highest bid at $47,000.

~~~Fred Snow, a 23 year employee with the school district, has been named assistant superintendent, replacing the retiring Mike LaMagna.
~~~Area grocers haven’t been affected by the independent truckers’ strike, but are stressing it’s little too early to tell what might happen. The truckers went on strike this week to protest a five cents a gallon increase in the federal gas tax.
~~~School district officials are going to protest a homeowner’s petition to have the district boundary in Heather Lake Meadows changed from Orion to Clarkston Schools.

~~~Allen’s Funeral Home on East Flint has been sold to Glenn Griffin of the Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home in Pontiac.
~~~Some downtown merchants would like to see a common theme in the business district. Harold Waltman said he favored a plan similar to that of Gaylord, where the downtown store fronts were all converted to a Bavarian type architecture.
~~~Terry McMaughna, a former track and field performer at LOHS, has earned a position on the Grand Valley State College 1973 indoor track/field team.
