Skating home champions

Twenty-six local figure skaters took on 1,600 skaters in national competition, coming home with two championships.
‘We are absolutely thrilled with the performance of our teams,? said Heather Blasko, director and coach of Team du Coeur. ‘Their love of the sport, and all the hard work they’ve put in this season really came through on the ice.?
The team’s Open Juvenile and Pre-Juvenile division teams took first place at the Sectional Championships, Jan. 16-17, in the Midwestern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.?
There is no National Championship for the Open Divisions, making sectionals its highest level of competition. This is the first time in the club’s 15 years two teams earned sectional titles in the same year.?
Team du Coeur, also coached by Sara Jack Grzymkowski and Kara Helgemo, includes skaters ages 9-16 from across western Oakland County, training at Lakeland Arena in Waterford.
