On June 19 Goodrich area teams competed in the Scholastic Clay Target Program State Championship at the Detriot Gun Club, in Walled Lake.
Thirteen teams, (54 total squads of 3) equalling 162 shooters representing Goodrich, Grand Blanc, Bentley, Davison, Western Wayne County, Genesee, Flat River, St. Joe County, De La Salle, Bellevue, and Kent County competed.
In American Skeet division, Goodrich’s Intermediate Entry Team of Cameron Exel, Matt Kovarik, and Nick Stambaugh took the first place State Championship in their division. The Intermediate Advanced Team of Justin Broecker, Bailey Stayton, and Jim Ruff took second place in their division, with Aaron Monroe, Josh Short, and Matthew Statson taking third in the same division.
For the first time in Goodrich team history a rookie division competed, (fifth grade students) Hunter Holton and David Stringer. We only had two compete, so they were shooting against squads of three, and did well enough to place third in the state in their division. Also, new to the Goodrich SCTP program is two Sporting Clays teams.
Led by Rich McCall, both the Junior Varsity team of Matt Hutchins, Ben McCall, and Jacob Antaya and the Intermediate Entry team of Matt Kovarik, and Cameron Exell won First Place State Championship in their respective divisions.
